Bishop Ian Burgess of the Macclesfield Ward welcomed members of 'Hope in North East Cheshire' to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the morning of Tuesday 15th May 2012.
Hope in North East Cheshire is affiliated to 'Churches Together' and strives to build relationships and dialogue between local Christian Churches. Introducing the event, Reverend Taffy Davies expressed that during his time in Macclesfield he had driven past the chapel many times, however he had never had the opportunity to come inside. He was very happy to receive this opportunity. Fifteen members of the clergy from Churches around Macclesfield came to the chapel and received an introduction to the beliefs of the Latter-day Saints and received a guided tour of the building. Leaders from the ward had produced displays that introduced the work of their organisation, and highlighted the Church’s focus on building testimonies of the Saviour Jesus Christ. Many of the visitors were particular impressed with the Family History Centre, and the work of the youth and Primary organisations in striving to support the work of the family.
This event enabled bridges to be built with the local community and, Bishop Burgess hopes, will enable the Latter-day Saints of Macclesfield to work with local Churches in areas of shared social concern.
