November 2018 is the 100-Year anniversary of the end of WW1. Over 16 million people lost their lives. Today we strive to remember those who gave their all to protect their families, their way of life, and the liberties we enjoy, lest we forget.
'Their words. Our voices'
On Nov 11th, join us via Facebook Live for a live performance from London of 'Voices of the Great War' - a timeless tale of family, faith, and duty - on the centennial anniversary of the end of WWI.
'Voices of the Great War' features characters and events taken from the journals and letters of front-line soldiers and Homefront supporters during the Great War of 1914-1918.
The event will be streamed live on this page, and on the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the United Kingdom Facebook page.
Lest We Forget!
Remembrance Day in 2018 falls on the Sabbath. It will be the 100 Year Anniversary of WW1.
11 days of Remembrance provides a unique opportunity to invite our congregations and friends to remember those who have gone before, either our own ancestors, or those from the community we live in.
The 11 Days of Remembrance is a programme created to remember those who have gone before. It includes suggestions such as:
Researching: Ancestors from World War 1 or from your local communities and other taking part in other family history related work.
Serving: 11 suggestions for each day in November leading up to 11/11/2018, of ways we can remember those who have gone before, to include service opportunities and ideas, an original letter and videos for each day of the week.
Planning: A special Sacrament meeting to be held on Sunday 11th November 2018
Inviting: Families and friends to an evening devotional of music & spoken word, with the option of staging a 60-minute show written for the occasion.
No aspect of this programme is mandatory. A range of options are available. Stake leaders may choose to use none, some or all of the ideas available, based on local needs and resource.
You can honour them by living the same values.
We invite you to use the first 11 days of November 2018 for 11 Days of Remembrance. We have created a calendar that will help you to remember the values they shared. (Click the image on the right to download the calendar)
The calendar suggests 11 ways you can serve others in 11 days, such as:
Resolve a disagreement
When someone offends you, forgive them quickly
Say only positive things to the people you meet, for the whole day
The calendar also containes links to daily videos and scriptures.
We have created a PDF document that outlines a number of ways the Stake or individual units may want to take part in the 11 Days programme. The document contains links to videos, scripts and posters that will help in organising their activities.
