The women from several congregations in the Coventry area gathered together with the aim of making a difference to homeless people within their local communities. Many homeless people feel “invisible”, and so this project was launched to reach out to them and let them know that some people recognise their needs, and care enough to do something practical for them.

The project was a very simple one, each person put together a “Blessings Bag” which they would carry in their handbag and find a homeless person to donate it to. The “Blessing Bags” bags contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, a drink, some sweets and a healthy snack, wet wipes, lip balm, hand gel, socks and paper tissues.
Astrid Myatt from Rugby has already had experience of handing out “Blessing Bags”, she said, “The homeless people that I approached were really grateful that someone had carefully thought about their needs. Being given the “Blessing Bag” helped them to feel valued and worthwhile.”
About 50 people attended the event and it is hoped that 50 homeless people in the local area will be helped, and that the participants will go on to repeat the act of service many times.
