More than 400 people attended the annual Coventry carol concert of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is now in its 14th year and as popular as ever, where choirs performed from each congregation in the area. They were joined by the well-known Coventry & Warwickshire Gospel Choir who sang two numbers, opening the service with a wonderful rendition of ‘Angels We Have Heard on High’.

Members of the Church welcomed the Deputy Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor John Blundell, Jim Cunningham MP, and several members of the Coventry Phoenix Rotary who will be responsible for distributing the gifts donated by the congregation to local needy children in time for Christmas.
Readings of the biblical Christmas story were enjoyed and traditional carols sung, but the highlights of the evening were the special musical items prepared by each congregation as well as the Young Single Adult group who performed a beautiful Christmas version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’.
Jim Cunningham, Member of Parliament for Coventry South, reminded the congregation of the dual purpose of the concert. He said, “I have been coming here for many, many years now and I always enjoy the carol singing, but really we are here tonight to remember those less fortunate than ourselves.”
A local church leader, Jonathan Maxwell said of the concert, “It’s a great way to start the Christmas season. The spirit that pervades this time of year should be that of charitable giving and it’s wonderful to have that opportunity tonight.”
