Hull Helping Hands Makes a Big Splash at Adventure Centre

100 Volunteers from the Hull and Beverley congregations provide many helping hands for local water centre

Welton Waters Adventure Centre, a Hull Trinity Centre charity based 11 miles from the centre of Hull, was visited recently by over 100 members of the Beverley and Hull congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All the volunteers, of all ages, were ready and willing to help clear a large area which is to be used as a future campsite. The adventure centre, which is based on a lovely stretch of the River Humber, offers a variety of land and water based activities which are intended for team building as well as individual and group activities.

Under the banner of the national Mormon Helping Hands Day, which provides service in the local community, a team of members cleared weeds, overgrowth, shrubbery and trees, much to the delight of the adventure centre personnel who are always looking for volunteers, saving them much needed funding. The local full-time missionaries were also able to join in and their hard, back-breaking work was much appreciated by all who attended.

The group were rewarded for their hard work by being able to use some of the great facilities on offer such as mountain biking, orienteering, archery and traversing the wall as well as the water based activities of dinghy sailing, power boating, windsurfing, raft-building, canoeing, kayaking and bell boating.  After many hours of hard work a very tired but happy team left feeling good about their contribution to such a wonderful project!
