"I'm a Mormon' media Campaign Launches in Norway

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has launched a campaign to respond to questions and interest in its Christian faith coinciding with the attention it may receive at the opening of the Book of Mormon musical in Oslo.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has no connection to nor endorses the musical. In response to the musical, which has opened in other cities internationally, the Church has made the following statement: “The production may attempt to entertain audiences for an evening, but the Book of Mormon as a volume of scripture will change people’s lives forever by bringing them closer to Christ.”

The Church plans to better inform the public about who Mormons really are and how their Christ-centered faith enriches their lives. Free copies of the Book of Mormon will be made available to theatre-goers and the Church has placed ads in the musical playbill. “We do not want to miss the opportunity to show who we are, what we stand for, to tell what it’s really like to be a Mormon,” says Dag Aanensen, Public Affairs representative of the Church in Norway.

There are approximately 4,600 Church members in Norway, over 500,000 in Europe and about 16 million members worldwide. Church roots in Norway date back to 1851 when missionaries first arrived.
