For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by following His example of compassion and service. This season, the Church is collaborating with local, national, and international charities to offer hope, support, and meaningful relief to those in need.
Across the country, local congregations will be leading community service projects, gathering essential items like food, clothing, and hygiene supplies, and supporting charitable initiatives to help individuals and families facing challenging circumstances.
In addition to these local efforts, Light the World machines are being introduced for the first time in the UK at two major shopping centres to make charitable giving even more accessible. Each machine offers donation cards featuring a range of items—such as livestock, clothing, food, and educational supplies—allowing shoppers to donate to causes closest to their hearts. Every donation given through these machines goes directly to the chosen charity, ensuring contributions make a meaningful impact. For more information, please visit uk.LighttheWorld.org.
The Church is highlighting these activities with a projection event at County Hall to support these charitable efforts, celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and encourage the community to join us in serving those in need.
Sister Kristin M. Yee of the General Relief Society Presidency joined the spectators in London to see the Light the World projection and said, "I’m grateful to be here in London as we launch Light the World and watch the beautiful projections on London’s County Hall. When we come together to bless others as the Saviour would, we will be blessed to do much more than we could on our own. Together, let us “Light the World” this season by bringing the Saviour’s love, light, and relief to those around us through simple acts of service and by seeking inspired ways to improve the well-being of women and children."
Elder Alan T. Phillips, from the Europe North Area Presidency, said, "We’re excited to launch the Light the World season of service here in Europe. This initiative offers a powerful way for individuals and communities to reach out and make a difference. As we come together in this season of giving, we invite everyone to participate and experience the joy that comes from lifting those in need and spreading light in impactful ways."
This Christmas, the Church invites everyone to Light the World by spreading joy, kindness, and hope. By coming together to give and serve, we can make the season brighter for those who need it most.
