The Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Wendy Flynn, was the special guest of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Cheltenham congregation’s evening of entertainment. She and over 250 members, friends and other invited guests heard a special chorale evening entitled, “Come Unto Christ”, a programme of well-known hymns and commentary from the life of Jesus Christ. The Mayor met local Church leaders President Ben Lowater and Bishop Mark Vernon of the Cheltenham area and was presented with a copy of local Church history in the area and town, which traces early Church converts and meetings as far back as 1840.

The choir consisted of over 50 full-time missionaries bearing their testimony of Jesus Christ through the power of music. Bishop Markham of the Stroud congregation led the choir and commented, “They are certainly a great and inspiring sound. It was a great privilege to do these special music arrangements and orchestrations of the Hymns of Zion for this choir of wonderful young missionaries who were able to share their testimonies this time through the beauty of music. I was greatly touched by the Spirit and considered it an honour to conduct them.”
Later the Mayor mixed with the choir and visitors after the performance where light refreshments had been provided.
