The Omagh congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern Ireland now has a number of members serving as full time missionaries around the world. Rebekah McKenna is serving in Greece and her brother Ben is serving in England. Their father Terry commented, "As parents, Elaine and I are both proud and pleased that two of our children are simultaneously serving full time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What has pleased us even more is that this is something that Ben and Rebekah decided upon themselves. They write every week and it is clear that they both really love what they are doing. Their missions give them a strong foundation and great life experiences. Although we miss them, we fully support their decision to give voluntary full time service to the Church". Rebekah travelled to the Missionary Training Centre in Salt Lake City, Utah, to learn the language before flying to Greece.
Another member, Jennifer Lee who is serving closer to home in the Scotland/Ireland Mission, is delighted to be able to go and serve others while Glen Nelson is serving in Edmonton, Canada. Glen's father said "We've have a strong local tradition of sending missionaries from Omagh. There have been many young LDS men and women serving others around the UK and further on. It is great to see such dedication from today's youth."
The members of the Congregation are very supportive of the missionaries. They write to them regularly, send them goodie packages, and love to get updates on their progress. They are very proud of their young men and women who are out spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
