The beginning of a New Year can often be viewed as new start; a time to begin again. This year has seen unprecedented challenges and heartbreak due to the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic. Because of the struggles of the past year, many people are hopeful that 2021 will bring new opportunities and a fresh start.
In a new episode of Hope Helps entitled, ‘New Year’s goals: are they a good idea?’, host Charly Burridge-Jones and her guests university students Lauren and Gabe Jones, and executive coach Daryl Watson, reflect on this topic and share personal experiences and insight.
“If for you, [the] prospect of a New Year is exciting and fills you with hope, then ride that wave and set those goals,” Lauren said in the episode. “But if you're not in that place . . . don't do it for the sake of doing it.”
“Simplicity is the key, and be flexible,” Daryl said. “Find a system that works for you, that’s easy and helps you to stay on track, and keep doing it.”
“Hope is the beginning. I think hope is something that gives you the motivation or the idea of wanting to do more,” Gabe said. Even accomplishing daily mundane tasks can move you toward your goals. “Those are [the] things that can help us accomplish more.”
