New Resources Help Saints ‘Love, Share and Invite’ Friends to Activities and Sunday Services

Friends who are searching online for local activities can find events on ward web pages and RSVP

New ward web pages and Activity Sharing resources are helping members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invite friends to activities and Sunday worship services — providing a simple way to “love, share and invite.”

Using the Church calendar, ward leaders can create and publish activities on their new public-facing ward web page. This allows ward members to easily share and invite friends to join in. People who are searching online for local activities can find them and RSVP, without needing to log in.

“We are excited about this new resource and pray that it will be one more way for each of us to share our lives, open our homes and include friends, family, returning members and the community to come and see," - Elder Quentin R. Cook

“We are excited about this new resource and pray that it will be one more way for each of us to share our lives, open our homes and include friends, family, returning members and the community to come and see,” said Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who introduced the new Activity Sharing resources during the Thursday leadership session of October 2024 general conference.

In the following examples of a ward web page and list of events, Sunday worship services and weekday activities are described in ways that a friend audience and anyone unfamiliar with Church terminology will understand and with a focus on Jesus Christ.

Text and images on the ward web pages are customisable. In descriptions, event creators are encouraged to include phrases such as “Christ-centred” or “centred on Jesus Christ” and images that emphasise who members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worship.

Many wards use social media pages for event awareness and now they can include links to their published activities. However, these social pages and groups are often closed or private and only accessible to those who have been invited.

Ward web pages, which target a community audience, are publicly available, so listed activities will show up in online searches. This allows people searching online for local Sunday worship meetings, cultural activities, service events and other social activities to find them and RSVP. Ward leaders can check a report in Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) and the Church calendar to see who has indicated they plan to attend, so they will be ready to welcome visitors. In the future, ward leaders will be automatically alerted.

“Ward social and service activities … could knit us together with even greater belonging and unity… Enjoyable gospel activities also [allow us to] invite neighbours and friends.” — Elder Gerrit W. Gong

“Ward social and service activities … could knit us together with even greater belonging and unity… Enjoyable gospel activities also [allow us to] invite neighbours and friends,” taught Elder Gerrit W. Gong (“Love Is Spoken Here,” October 2023 General Conference). That’s why the Church’s Missionary Department, which helped develop Activity Sharing, encourages wards to describe activities in ways that a friend audience and anyone unfamiliar with Church terminology will understand.

For example, instead of using the words “sacrament meeting,” event creators could say “Sunday worship services,” and use descriptions like “women’s group” and “children’s group,” rather than “Relief Society” and “Primary.”

Leaders should also include a description that provides more details. Include the time, address, recommended dress, target age range and other important information to know, such as “all are welcome.” Where applicable, describe activities and worship services as “Christ-centred” or “centred on Jesus Christ” to emphasise the spiritual purpose and focus of the event. See the example Sunday services and activity descriptions below.

Although stakes don’t have separate web pages, they can schedule activities on the calendar, which will then automatically publish on each ward’s web page in the stake.

After all the planning and promotion of events, the final step is for ward members to be friendly and welcome all who attend activities and services. The Share Ward Activities page states, “When you attend ward activities, look for people you don’t know. Say hello. Welcome them. Take time to get to know them. Make sure they know what is happening and how to best participate in the activity.”
