Swindon Young Men Reach New Heights

Eleven young men aged between 12 to 18 years, with leaders from the Swindon congregation in the Cheltenham area, performed a sponsored walk up Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons to raise money for the SANDS charity. The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity works in partnership with health professionals to try to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and fund research that could help to reduce the number of unborn babies dying and the families devastated by this tragedy.

Some of those who ventured out on the walk have close friends and family who have had reason to use this charity, so they wanted to raise further funds.  A £20 donation provides a memory box for families, and the young men’s goal is to raise the funds required for a year’s supply of special memory boxes.

The young men walked the Brecon Beacons, which are 886metres above sea level and form the highest peak in Southern Britain, in very difficult wintry conditions.  They navigated the peak as sleet, high winds and temperatures that were described as feeling like minus7 degrees, faced them at every step.

So far, their efforts have raised over £1,600.

The total can still be added to via donations at www.justgiving.com/swindonym.
