Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints view this pageant as a special way to express their belief to their community and honour their British heritage. Volunteers came from all over the region to audition for this unique opportunity and share their talents. Auditions were held in groups as artistic director Alex McKenzie Johns and her supporting committee selected the cast.
“Many people have felt the strength and courage of those people they were portraying in the audition,” said Alex McKenzie Johns. The following video shows clips from the auditions:
In the next video, you will get a sneak peek of the composer, Samuel Petchey, and the creative journey he took to write original pieces for the pageant. This has been a spiritual and emotional experience for him to take part in what he calls a musical “legacy”.
Others are able to share their talents through the use of their hands. Several volunteers collaborated to create the costumes for the pageant. The costumes were made to look authentic to the time period and to fit each cast member personally.
Whether they contribute through song and dance, sewing and cutting, or constructing and designing, the overall sentiment felt by Church members is a sincere message from their hearts: Truth will prevail!
