Local MP Visits Poppy Appeal Collectors

Toby Perkins MP visited the local supermarket, not for groceries but to give support to the Poppy Appeal collectors from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Tesco in Lockoford Lane Chesterfield. Toby made one of the first donations, chatted to donors and thanked the volunteer collectors for their time and support for the appeal.

Members of the Church are collecting for the Poppy Appeal this year and have done so for the last four years in this venue, donating over 200 hours to raise money for the appeal. Rotary Club members perform collections on Sundays allowing church members to attend their Sunday meetings.

Claire Rowcliffe who manages fundraising for the RBL says, “We are grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the assistance they have given during the Poppy Appeal. Their support has strengthened our collections ensuring that vital funds are raised which will make a huge difference to Service Personnel, veterans and their families.”

A Church spokesperson commented, “It really is simple, we follow Jesus Christ, help those in need wherever we can and remember those who served and sacrificed for our freedom to worship as we choose.”
