New Bishop for Alloa Congregation in Edinburgh

Stanley Wilford has been called as the Bishop of the Alloa Ward (congregation) in the Edinburgh Scotland area.

Bishop Wilford, a sales and marketing executive, was born and raised in South Africa and had the privilege of serving a mission in the Cape Town South Africa Mission as a young man. Over the years he has had the unique opportunity to serve in a number of capacities within the Church which includes serving as a Presiding Elder of a small branch, a Elders Quorum President, a Councillor in a Bishopric, a member of the Stake High Council, a Young Men’s President, a teacher in Seminary, Sunday School and Institute, and as Ward Clerk.

Stanley Wilford says of his new calling, “I am humbled by the trust and confidence that the Lord has placed in my path to serve as the Bishop here in the Alloa Ward, a wonderful part of the Edinburgh Scotland Stake. The opportunity to reach out to our Heavenly Father’s children and serve the Lord in kindness, love and faith is a special and unique privilege. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone and will provide a light to guide and strengthen every soul as we strive to return to our Heavenly home. The atonement of Jesus Christ is real and makes it possible for all to be cleansed from sin and enjoy the companionship of the Holy Ghost. The ordinance of baptism is that gateway that puts us on the path to eternal life.”

Bishop Wilford is married to Helen Wilkinson and they are the proud parents of four children: Jordan, Aimee, Hannah and Daniel. Serving with him will be Calum McNeish as 1st counsellor and Iain Banks as 2nd counsellor in the Bishopric. Calum McNeish, a regional global business process manager, is a convert to the Church. Iain Banks, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow comments,  “I have a firm testimony of the Book of Mormon, of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and of the Plan of Salvation. I know that Jesus Christ lives, and that the Plan of Salvation is the surest path through a happy and fulfilling life to take us to the Celestial Kingdom.”
