History
The first missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Britain, including two members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, preached in Preston in 1837. Nine converts were baptised the first week, another 15 the week after. During the nineteenth century over 52,000 converts emigrated from Britain to join the main body of the Church in the United States. By 1870 nearly half of Utah's population were British immigrants.
In 1958 the Church dedicated a temple near London. A second temple near Preston opened in 1998. Today the UK has over 185,000 Church members in more than 330 congregations.
